Panchang FAQs
Why do festival dates differ between India and Canada?
Hindu festivals follow the tithi at local sunrise. Because Canada is 9.5 to 10.5 hours behind India, a tithi can begin on a different calendar day, so the date here sometimes differs from the Indian calendar.
What is Rahu Kalam?
Rahu Kalam is a period of about 90 minutes each day that is traditionally avoided for starting new work, travel or important purchases.
Which Panchang system is used?
The Amanta calendar with Lahiri ayanamsa, which is widely followed in South and West India and by most temples in Canada.
Can I get a muhurat for a wedding or griha pravesh?
The Panchang shows the daily factors, but a proper muhurat also checks both people’s charts. Pandith Vikram can select one for you.
