Moon signs are found
Each person’s Moon sign and nakshatra are calculated, because Guna Milan is based on the Moon rather than the Sun.

Eight kootas are scored
Varna, Vashya, Tara, Yoni, Graha Maitri, Gana, Bhakoot and Nadi are compared, for a total out of 36 gunas.

Manglik is checked
Both charts are checked for Mangal dosha, since a Manglik match matters as much as the guna score in many families.
Kundli Matching FAQs
How many gunas are needed for marriage?
Traditionally 18 out of 36 is the minimum, 24 to 32 is considered very good and above 32 is excellent. The score is a starting point, not the full picture.
What is Nadi dosha?
Nadi dosha occurs when both partners have the same Nadi, which gives 0 out of 8 points. It is often cancelled when the couple share the same Moon sign but different nakshatras, or vice versa.
Is a low score a reason not to marry?
Not on its own. Many low-scoring matches have cancellations or strong supporting factors in the full charts. Pandith Vikram reviews both horoscopes in detail before advising a family.
Can I match without the birth time?
The guna score usually stays the same, because it depends on the Moon. The Manglik check needs the birth time to be accurate.
